The Lychford Collection 1 has the sort of title that already sounds like a hidden road, a bad moon, and a village keeping secrets for reasons that probably seemed wise at the time.
That is very much my kind of setup. Fantasy collections work best when the place itself becomes part of the pleasure, when the reader wants to stay not because everything is safe, but because the world has texture. Paul Cornell has a strong enough reputation that I would go in expecting atmosphere with intent, not just decorative weirdness.
If you are looking for something that feels like a compact portal instead of a giant multivolume commitment, this seems promising.
