Universe of Lost Messages swallowed me completely. A future world with celebrity-powered Charismites, a shadowy organization called The Fist, a street-smart teen named Cheeta who discovers a metaverse of floating lost messages, and a slow-burn romance running through all of it. I was completely in the vortex.
Stilson’s world-building is incredible — United America’s class system, the security bots, the way celebrity and political power have fused. The multiple POV narrators each have a distinct voice. And the central mystery — what happened to the Charismites, and can they be found before The Fist uses them — kept me reading hours past when I should have stopped.
Winner of the 2024 NYC Big Book Award in Sci-Fi. Absolutely deserved.
